The Mission Film In English we watched The Mission and completed a viewing guide with questions to analyze what we saw. This movie fits within the pillar of Recognizing Perspectives because it shows many points of view of the subject of colonization. It also creates a sense of empathy for certain characters that one might find unlikeable. Furthermore, The Mission supported the concept of this pillar in that it shows the viewer very emotional truthful depictions of the life of natives during colonization of their land. Furthermore, this source addresses my overarching question in that it showed an example of the historical treatment of indigenous people. Creation Stories In English we read Native American creation stories and discussed in a seminar the importance of each of the stories and how they related to modern American ideas of Earth. This assignment fits within the pillar of Recognizing perspectives because it gave my classmates and I an opportunity to begin to understand some aspects of Native American culture and way of life. Furthermore, this seminar supported the concept of this pillar in that it allowed different people to recognize various viewpoints and how they relate to ones own interpretation of life. Furthermore, this source addresses my overarching question in that it provided interesting material to research the Native American culture.
